General information
Clomid is an anti-estrogenic drug. It belongs to the class of SERMs, i.e. selective estrogen receptor modulators. This means that the molecule of such a drug successfully attaches to estrogen receptors, but activates them in some tissues and blocks them in others. Clomid blocks estrogen receptors mainly in the hypothalamus and pituitary gland. In other tissues, however, it usually activates these receptors.
The medical purpose of clomid is to stimulate ovulation in women. It does this by blocking estrogen receptors in the hypothalamus and ovaries.
But exactly the same is true for the male body, and although clomid is not approved for use in men, it is very often used in medical practice to treat too low testosterone levels in the stronger sex, as well as related infertility.
Dosages
The optimal dosage of clomid is 50-100 mg per day (the latter is usually used only in particularly difficult cases). The maximum, if we talk about daily intake – 150 mg, if it is exceeded, it is possible to manifest side effects.
Since the half-life of clomid is very long (5-7 days) and this drug does not start working immediately, the so-called preloading is applicable for clomid: it is recommended to increase the dose during the first (only!) intake – it should be 150-300 mg.
